Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect to my dashcam?

Turn on the dashcam and activate its Wi-Fi (refer to the dashcam manual). On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and join the network broadcast by the dashcam. Then launch Inspector 2.0 — connection happens automatically.

Why are my videos not loading?

The most common cause is a weak Wi-Fi signal between your phone and the dashcam. Make sure both devices are close together, the dashcam Wi-Fi is active, and your phone is connected to it (and not your home or mobile network). Restarting the dashcam usually resolves stuck connections.

Which devices are supported?

Inspector 2.0 works with most dashcams that broadcast a local Wi-Fi network and expose recordings over a standard protocol. The app runs on iOS 15 and later.

Why does the app ask for gallery access?

Gallery access is required only when you choose to save a video from the dashcam to your phone. Without this permission, the app cannot store downloaded clips. The app does not read or upload any other photos or videos from your gallery.

How does video sharing with the community work?

Sharing is fully optional. You select a specific video and confirm the upload — nothing is sent automatically. Shared clips help highlight dangerous driving and contribute to safer roads. You can stop using the sharing feature at any time.

Privacy & Permissions

Inspector 2.0 only requests permissions strictly required for its core features. Nothing is collected in the background.

Photos / Gallery

Used to save videos that you download from the dashcam. The app reads or writes only the files you explicitly choose to save.

Wi-Fi

Used to detect and communicate with the dashcam over its local Wi-Fi network. No internet traffic is generated by this connection.

About the Project

Inspector 2.0 is a non-commercial project. There are no ads, no paid features, and no data is sold or shared with third parties.

Our goal is simple: to improve road safety and reduce dangerous situations on the streets. By making it easier to review and share dashcam footage, we help drivers, pedestrians, and communities build a culture of safer driving.
